The fresh produce centre of the North The wholesale market for fruit, vegetables and flowers was first built at its current site in the Hammerbrook district of Hamburg in 1962. Because it offers a wide variety of produce and is centrally located, the wholesale market's catchment area extends beyond Hamburg into Schleswig-Holstein, parts of Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as well as western Poland and south Scandinavia . Hamburg is included in statistics as a representative market for imported fruit and vegetables. The site covers 283,000 m². The market hall offers 50,260 m² of wholesaling space with a further 46,542 m² of outside space available for handling produce, of which some 24.421 m² is privately owned. The entire range of services connected with the distribution of food is available. The firms based at the market are highly competitive thanks to their customer friendly attitudes and the latest standards in logistics and services. Built: 1962
