The market of many markets. That describes a network comprising the wholesale market hall, four permanent food markets, one wholesale flower market, a gardening hall, 41 street and farmers’ markets and the abattoir; for over a century they have combined to guarantee supplies of fresh, top-quality food and flowers to some 5 million people in the region and brokered the export of produce throughout Europe. Thanks to continuous investment, Munich market halls are both modern and conscious of their traditions. Occupying an area of some 435,000 m2, 400 importers and wholesalers handle some 140 different types of product from 83 countries to the value of over 2.0 bn. euros. In addition there are 65 horticultural enterprises, 45 flower traders, several meat and fish vendors, meat and fish packers and 15 wholesalers dealing in other goods.
