The World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) met for a conference in Turin from 18 to 20 April.

At the 19 April session entitled “Food safety and market certification” the deputy managing director of Hamburg Wholesale Market, Torsten Berens, gave a presentation of the planned HACCP Certification of Hamburg Wholesale Market.

The topic of the talk was how established wholesale markets cope with the requirements of food safety and hygiene. Taking the wholesale market as his example, the speaker pointed out Methods, lessons, applicability and recommendations.

At the 19 April session entitled “The evolution of logistics in modern wholesale markets” Heinrich Hodorff gave a presentation of his new HQL logistics centre.

The topic of the talk was how modern logistics platforms are being developed at wholesale markets. Taking HQL as his example, the speaker showed how a modern logistics platform can be tailored to the current demands of the international market.

Heinrich Hodorff is offering his HQL concept to wholesale market operators and their resident firms. Queries have come in from all over Europe, for example from the Benelux and Mediterranean countries, as well as from Mexico , Libya Saudi Arabia and China .

The World Union of Wholesale Markets unites the major wholesale markets on all five continents; it is a non-profit organization which first took up work in 1955. The main aim of the Union is to distil the lessons learned by its members, to channel interests and promote the standing of wholesale markets across the world, showing them to be the guarantee for freshness, variety and quality. The World Union supports its members in their efforts to supply fresh food at competitive prices without compromising on the high standards of quality which set this sales channel apart from the others. At present WUWM has more than 160 members in 40 countries.
